I grew up in a fanatic football family. My grandparents had season tickets for the Seattle Seahawks for more than 20 years. Friday nights were spent at high school football games. On Sunday’s we were gathered around whatever game might be on television.
While I enjoy football—I don’t live and breathe it like the rest of family (much to their dismay)! But I do love a good game with fans who love their team.
Late this summer my husband Nelson asked me if I would be interested in seeing the Miami Dolphins play the Green Bay Packers at Green Bay. While I would normally not be thrilled about traveling to Wisconsin on the heels of winter—this sounded like a blast!
Green Bay fans, Lambeau Field and the concept of community ownership were legendary in my childhood home. I still remember images of a snow covered field surround by bundled-up enthusiastic fans on the television.
I had no idea what to expect when we pulled in the parking lot of Lambeau Field on October 17th. We traveled to Green Bay with friends Mike and Joanne who live in Dallas. Mike is originally from Wisconsin and is a HUGE Packers fan. So when I learned it was wheels up at 7am from our hotel the morning of the game—I knew I was in for quite an experience!
Tailgating was underway by 8am. With all the traditional Wisconsin trimmings: brats, burgers, cheese, beer and bloody marys (Mike’s “special” recipe).
But what I loved most was what I’ll never forget about Green Bay. The fans and their contagious enthusiasm for their beloved Packers. When we walked through the door of Lambeau Field the energy hit me like a tons of brick.
If there was ever a team of fans who have earned Super Bowl rights—it’s Packers fans! The America football experience is alive and well in Green Bay! Whether you like the Packers or not—the experience will not disappoint!
Go Pack—Super Bowl XLV Champs! Congratulations! And thanks for the fun!
